There has been a huge uproar on Gangapath. The miscreants have brutally thrashed the shopkeepers who opposed the extortion. Not only this, they said that the land along the Ganga Path (the so-called Marine Drive) does not belong to the Bihar Government but to our forefathers. Therefore if you set up a shop then you will have to pay extortion at any cost. Many shopkeepers paid extortion. It is alleged that ice cream shopkeepers Pushkar Kumar Jha and Rahul Kumar Pathak refused to pay the extortion. As soon as they protested, about 25 miscreants accompanied by Randhir alias Dhiru Kumar, husband of Ward 22 A councilor Sushila Devi, thrashed both of them brutally. Both were seriously injured.

Police filed a case against 18 people

In this case, the police have arrested the extortionists involved in the incident from the spot. Investigation is going on in the case. The shopkeeper has said that for the past several months I have been paying extortion at the rate of Rs 700 daily. I am tired of paying extortion for the past one year. On Thursday night, both of us refused to pay the extortion. After this, the miscreants started beating us. On receiving information, the Dial 112 team reached and took one of the accused Bunty to the police station.

A case has been registered at the Digha Police Station against Dheeru, Rahul, Nitish, Bunty, Kaushal and 18 unidentified persons.

Patrolling is being done on Marine Drive

Giving information about this case, Digha police station in-charge Brajkishore Singh said that every day there was information that anti-social elements harass shopkeepers on Marine Drive of Digha. Many times patrolling is being done on Marine Drive by the police station. Shopkeepers and people who come to visit are also asked whether they are facing any kind of problem here. Further action is going on in the matter.
